Top 10 SEO Search Engine Optimization Tips
Here I will explain ten top tips, in which you can optimize your position on search engines. If you implement these onto your website it will definitely be a step in the right direction.
1. Do NOT start your website with the word "Welcome"
Very common mistake with any new website, people like to welcome visitors. It's OK to welcome visitors, but dont use it as the first word!
2. <h> Tags! </h>
Make sure that the first piece text on your website is contained within an "H" tag. "H" stands for heading, you want your readers to see this clearly when they join, the same applies to search engine algorithms.
Example:
<h2> This is the Title!</h2>
3. Use Clean Code
Is it a true that search engines prefer clean code? My answer "Yes". Make sure that your code is not messy. Clean up those broken links, and remove all of that unwanted code from your HTML.
4. Submit your website to search engines.
Don't just sit there and wait to be indexed, be pro-active and submit your website to as many engines as possible! More visits means more interest! This leads nicely to point 5...
5. Get Link Backs
Search engines love websites with a lot of link backs. In laymen terms, a link back is gained by getting your link on another website! It's that simple, if you are clever there is many ways this can be achieved (use your imagination!).
6. High PR link backs are king!
By getting your link onto one website with high PR is better than getting your link on one hundered with terrible PR. Put your time and effort into more important link backs!
7. Create a Site Map.
Nice and simple. Create a site map for you website which engine crawlers can use to index your website. There are websites specifically built for creating sitemaps for you! Search for "Site Map Generator" on Google and I imagine the first link will suffice.
8. Use Meta Tags.
I'm not sure how important this tip is. However for the sake of being thorough you should always use Meta tags. They go in the <head> section of your website.
Example:
<META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="Put about 5 keywords here"> <meta content='Put about 7 keywords here comma separated (You can use multiple words between each comma' name='robots'/> <meta content='Keep this short and sweet 5 words max, content related keywords' name='author'/>
9. Rich Content
Write rich content. Use good English and make sure that what you write is actually good information. Remember, content is key! It can also encourage people to return to your website.
10. Do not give up!
Its often hard when starting off, which is why many people give up trying. My advice is to stick with it. Even with a little work here and there, time can help. Search engines tend to prefer websites which have been running for a long time.
The tips mentioned here are simply basics of Search Engine Optimization, but often highly overlooked. If anyone asks me for advice on SEO, these are always the tips I give. I hope this helps. Let me know what you think.
